Igniting The Holocaust - Facing History and Ourselves: The Bear That Wasn't

This LibGuide takes 5th grade students through the human behavior and historical events that precipitated WWII. It is based on the first 3 steps of the Facing History & Ourselves process and is designed to be used as a supplement to classroom discussion.

A Fable...

The following video is a wonderful short story about a bear (or possibly a man) who is not quite sure of his own identity.  Please watch it carefully.

As you watch, think about your identity chart.  What do you have in common with the bear?  What differences are there between you?

You Respond...

Directions:

  1. Use the file below to create an Identity Chart for the Bear from the story.
  2. Inside the bear print write the Bear's perceptions of himself.
  3. In the white space around the paw print, write labels for others' perceptions of him.
  4. Be ready to discuss this video and your response to it with the rest of the class.

Note:  You may choose to "save as" and use text boxes or to print the sheet and complete it by hand.
