How to Set Up the Flip Camera on your Computer:

  2. Go to “My Computer” and click on the Flip Camera drive.
  3. Scroll down and click on the icon labeled “Setup_FlipShare.exe”
  4. Download the Flip Camera Software.
  5. You should now have access to the movie editing.

Getting Files from your Camera to Computer

Getting Files from the Camera to your Computer:

  1. Plug in the Camera to your computer’s USB drive.
  2. Allow the Flip Camera software to load and then you should see all of the current videos on the camera appear in the main window.
  3. Select the video clip you would like to save by clicking on it and then click on the “Save to Computer” button located below the videos. Do NOT delete your (or anyone else’s) video from the camera—these will be backup files should something happen to your computer!

Making a Movie

Making a Movie:

  1. You should create a script for your movie first which will also include the setting, costumes, etc.
  2. Begin recording by pressing the Red button in the center of controls on the camera. You also stop recording by pressing this button. You can zoom in and out by using the top and bottom toggle buttons above and below the red button.
  3. When filming, give yourself about 2-3 seconds of running tape before you begin speaking. For some reason, the camera will not record your voice until it has been running for 2-3 seconds.
  4. Once you have recorded your entire movie, you can edit the pieces and put them together for your movie in the FlipShare program.
    • First, save all of your segments to the computer. You should work with your segments within this folder so that your movie will be saved to your computer.
    • To trim your video, click on the video and then on the scissors icon located on the bottom-right of the video. Slide the trimmer from right to left to trim pieces from your movie. NOTE: You cannot take out pieces from the middle of videos and keep the first and last parts!
    • Once your pieces are ready to be put together for your movie, click on your first segment and then click on the “Create: Movie” button at the bottom of your screen. Drag the other segments in the order you would like to use them and click on “Full Movie.”
    • The FlipShare software will guide you through the rest of the process which is very easy. Please note that if you choose to use music, it will be present throughout the entire film, not just pieces of it. If you would like to have music in certain sections, you should have it playing while you are recording.
    • Once you have completed making your movie and watched it to be sure you are satisfied, right-click on the movie and select “Export” to save the movie to your computer outside of the FlipShare software.
    • Please save this file to a USB Drive so that I can download it to my computer. In addition, attempt to email me the file (if it is not too big.)
