Mosaics in the Ancient World: Library Materials

Prof. Dunar's Latin I, II, IV, Mediterranean Archaeology Research

Books, etc.

Most of the books on Byzantine art and culture have been pulled for you. You will find them on the window sill by the art section.

Because you need to know this: use the library catalog to search 'byzantium' - you will find call numbers in history, culture, government, religion, and art.

The Huntsville Public Library uses the same classfication system as we do. If you need materials on Byzantine history, you will find them in the public library under 949.5.

Search for them here:

JSTOR, AVL, and other options

Use the column of databases on the library's home page to search for your keywords. JSTOR will have scholarly articles, while AVL will lead you Academic Search Premier which has both readily-available magazines and scholarly journals.

When you search using Google, use it the smart way. By typing site: at the beginning of your search, you can limit results. site:edu, for instance, will return only materials from colleges and universities.

site:edu byzantine mosaics

site:edu mosaics Tunisia

site:edu mosaic opera

refseek is another search engine that will return scholarly webpages and documents. Be sure to always check your sources for authority. See Dr. Dunar or Mrs. Anderson if you have any questions.
