Theater History Project: Library Resources

In this project you, and your project partners, will create a visual presentation about a specific time period in the history of theater. You may create this presentation using Power Point or Movie Maker, OR you may write a play, whichever you choose.

Print Materials

Use the library catalog to search for your keyword terms. Use book indexes to search for your keyword terms. See Mrs. Anderson or Mrs. Voight for help.

This is a good topic for browsing the collection. Go to the 780s for musical theater; 920 for general biographies; 812 for American drama. Don't look for a specific title, but see what your library has on that subject area. Use the index for a quick determination of helpfulness.

Be sure to include the Reference section in your perusal! There you will find:

Don't forget to look for costume, interior and exterior design, theater in history (from Ancient Greece to the Holocaust Play at Terezin, to Vaclav Havel and the Velvet Revolution), and the culture of theater. We have biographies, books on litereature, encyclopedia of festivals and pilgrimages, and literary criticisms of well-know plays and playwrites.

The library has a wide variety of films on DVD, including biographies of playwrites (Tennessee Williams), collections of stage performances by notable actors (Helen Mirren), opera (Boris Godunov), film from stage (The Crucible), and several filmed productions of stage performances:
